IGNOU Law Admission 2026: IGNOU is going to start the admission process soon for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. It offers admission in multiple disciplines related to law through the School of Law. There is no direct Law programme offered but a postgraduate programme with specialization that covers law disciplines. Students who have bachelor’s degree can apply for PG Law programmes and students who have passed only 12th can apply for Certificate courses in law. All programmes offered here are approved by UGC. Fees depends on the programme chosen but typically ranges from INR 3,000 to INR 7,000. The starting date of admission is expected to be 15 December 2025*.

About IGNOU

IGNOU was established through an act of Parliament in September 1985. At present, it is the world’s largest open University. Approved by UGC and AIU, university aims at delivering higher education to remote and inaccessible areas as well through distance mode of learning. NAAC and NIRF has also ranked IGNOU among top universities for quality education, affordable fees, top faculty and adequate supply of study material. 

NOTE: IGNOU does not have any particular Distance or Online law courses like LLB, as it is not recognised from Bar of Council but it offers various law-related Certificate courses and PG Diplomas.

IGNOU Law Admission 2026

IGNOU Law admission process will start soon for the January 2026 academic session. IGNOU offers admission twice a year, in January and July. Students who are interested in law and are not able to pursue BA (LLB) can enroll here in one of the multiple law-related disciplines like Certificate in International Humanitarian Law, Certificate in Gender Law, PG Diploma in Environmental Management & Law, PG Certificate in Cyber Law, etc. 

They have to fulfill eligibility criteria specific for chosen courses, and also need to pay a non refundable application fee which is necessary to pay. The expected date of starting admission is going to be 15 December 2025*, with chances of further extension. 

IGNOU Law Certificate Courses

IGNOU offers Law related short-term certificate course through School of Law. Certificate courses have a duration of 6 months.

  • Certificate in International Humanitarian Law (CIHL): CIHL programme is delivered in English medium with the support of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). This course focus on developing knowledge and skills in area of International Humanitarian Law and enhance competencies of professionals already working in IHL. Its full programme fee is Rs. 3,000. 
  • Certificate in (Co-operative Law & Business Law): CCLBL programme is a 6 month certificate course delivered through English medium. Main objective of course is to provide students complete understanding and knowledge about functioning of small economic & business enterprises. Students also get overview of various business laws governing enterprises. Full programme fee for this course is Rs. 8,400. 
  • Certificate (Gender in Law): CGSL programme has a short course duration of 6 month and its medium of instruction is English. This certificate programme provides an understanding of gender and its interaction with legal system in India. Total programme fee of CGSL course is Rs. 2,500. 

IGNOU Law PG Diploma & PG Certificate Course

IGNOU also offers some postgraduate diploma and certificate courses that can be pursued after completing graduation through its School of Law.

PG Certificate in Cyber Law (PGCCL): The PGCCL course which is delivered in English medium, addresses changing needs of knowledge society in the area of Cyber Law. This course enable learners to gain critical understanding of cyber law and develop competencies to deal with cyber scams & frauds. It also gives in-depth knowledge of IT Act and legal framework of right to privacy, data security etc. Total course fees of PGCCL programme is Rs. 8,400.

Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management & law (PGDEML): This course is delivered through School of Inter-disciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies and has a duration of 1 year. PGDEML Programme focuses on building expertise in environmental law, policy and management equipping students with relevant skills. Total programme fees is Rs. 7,000. 

Eligibility Criteria For IGNOU Law Admission 2026

Basic eligibility that needs to be fulfilled by every student is that they should be 10th and 12th passed and specifically depends on the programme chosen by the student. Eligibility Criteria for different Law programmes are given below:

  • Certificate in International Humanitarian Law (CIHL): Students should be a 10+2 passed or its equivalent. Students having BPP from IGNOU can also apply. 
  • Certificate in (Co-operative Law & Business Law): Fresher students must have a Bachelor’s degree in any field or Working Personnel should be 10+2 passed with three years working certificate.
  • Certificate (Gender in Law): Students who passed their 10+2 or its equivalent from a certified educational board.
  • PG Certificate in Cyber Law (PGCCL): Students should have graduation in any discipline or 4th & 5th year students from 5 year LLB Programme who have cleared their 3 years of LLB.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management & law (PGDEML): Students must have graduation in any discipline.

IGNOU Law Admission Fee Structure 2026

As there is no single course of law, instead it is offered in different fields and hence, its fee structure also varies. IGNOU offers Certificate and Diploma courses in law. Fee component is usually divided into two parts, development fee and programme fee. Application fee is also necessary to pay, one time and non refundable.

IGNOU Law Admission Process 2026

  • Step 1: Go to official portal of IGNOU and click on ‘Apply for ODL Programmes’. You can also apply directly through its admission portal, www.ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/index.php/site/index. 
  • Step 2: Register yourself as a new user and create an account with your personal Email Id and Phone number.
  • Step 3: Start filling the application form with all the required and important information (personal details and academic qualifications)
  • Step 4: Upload relevant documents in PDF or JPEG format. It is necessary to scan documents only from your original.
  • Step 5: Pay applicable fees through online payment mode (credit card, debit card, Netbanking or UPI.
  • Step 6: Submit application form and wait for further notifications from University. They usually takes 10 to 15 working days to process application forms and confirm admissions.

IGNOU Law Assignments and Evaluation

IGNOU has divided its evaluation system into two parts, which are Assignments and Term End Examination (TEE). Assignments carry 30% of the total weightage, and TEE carries 70% of the total weightage. 

  • Assignments – They are an important part of evaluation as it counts in Internal Assessment. If any student fails to submit their assignment on time then they will not be able to sit for the final examination (TEE). They can download assignments through official website under ‘Students Services’ section and submit it offline to designated study centre. 
  • Term End Examination – TEE are external assessment and carries majority of marks of final result. Students get the choice of choosing an examination centre that is close to them while filling examination form.
